This is not your usual tour of hopping and ticking off the three Baltic capitals, this is a true off the beaten track adventure where you will get it all - see our biggest cities with their charming old towns and get out to the countryside, exploring nature trails and rivers by hiking, kayaking or cycling. We want to show you the real Baltic states like we would enjoy exploring them ourselves.

This tour includes a guide/tour leader during the whole trip and transportation in a comfortable minivan or a car.

1st DAY

Arrival in Vilnius, optional transfer to your hotel, check-in, welcome meeting with a guide.

2nd DAY. Exploring Vilnius and kayaking beautiful Trakai

In the morning we will show you our charming capital Vilnius and tell you all those great stories behind the cobbled streets and beautiful baroque facades.

The tour will continue to Uzupis, a self proclaimed independent republic within Vilnius city boundaries, which was established twenty years ago by the local artists. Walking tour will take around 2,5 hours. 

In the afternoon you will go for a picturesque kayaking adventure in Trakai.

Kayak tour in Trakai is a perfect combination of nature, history and paddling on some of the most picturesque lakes of Lithuania. Trakai used to be a medieval residence of Lithuanian Grand Dukes. Once a significant and powerful town, nowadays Trakai is enjoying tranquility and a status of summer resort with its only 5000 residents. The town is located next to Vilnius (about 25 km) and surrounded by several beautiful lakes. The main attraction is the Island castle which was initiated by Lithuanian Grand Duke Kestutis in 14th century, finished and mostly used as a residence by his son Grand Duke Vytautas in the first half of 15th century. The route takes you on 3 interconnected lakes. The distance is about 11 km which makes 2,5 - 3 hours of active paddling.

The rest of the time you will have a picnic on one of the small islets. 

In the evening upon returning to Vilnius you will have chance to opt for Lithuanian historical tasting dinner or local beer tasting.

3rd DAY. Beautiful road of Panemune and local homestay

The day will start early.

We will drive through a beautiful road by the river Nemunas that has a lot of castles and stop in Panemune Castle on the way.

Following the biggest Lithuanian river Nemunas you will pass by it’s remote villages and towns which lay between the many rivers and channels. On this day you will also visit a fascinating 3 km long walking trail in the Aukstumala bog (it the weather conditions allow).

In the late afternoon you will arrive to Rusne, the biggest island of Lithuania where you will be welcomed by our lovely local host with a hearty homemade dinner.

Enjoy the evening at the homestead or go explore the tiny town of Rusne. For the perfect end of the day, enjoy local’s beloved hot sauna experience (OPTIONAL).

4th DAY. Free day or optional kayaking daytrip in Nemunas river delta

Enjoy a great outdoor experience on a full day kayaking trip in Nemunas river delta. Paddle rivers Minija and Nemunas as well as Curonian lagoon, learn more about the bird migration in the bird ringing station, enjoy great views from the top of old lighthouses and explore local culture in the fishermen villages. This is a full day (8 hours) kayaking trip with a picnic lunch. All the kayaking equipment and safety gear and instructions will be provided.

5th DAY. From Rusne to Riga with sightseeing on the way

After delicious homemade breakfast we will say goodbye to our local host and will head north to Riga.

On the way we will pass through Zemaitijos national park where we will visit world famous Cold War museum - a top secret Soviet military base where 4 missiles with nuclear warheads were kept during the seventies and were ready to launch and start another world war. 

After the tour in the Cold War museum we will continue to Siauliai and visit a Hill of Crosses - another site that attracts thousands of people who come to see this fascinating hill covered with more than 100,000 crosses as a symbol of Lithuanian nationalism and beliefs. Later we will continue our trip to Riga, capital of Latvia where another couple day full of adventure will be waiting for us.

6th DAY. Explore Riga on foot

In the morning you will have a 2 hour walking tour in Old Riga.

While meandering its narrow streets and ancient alleyways you will discover the must visit sites and some hidden corners. Founded in 1201 by the German bishop Albert, Riga is the largest of the three Baltic capitals and boasts a true kaleidoscope of various architectural styles. The walking tour of the Old Town includes Riga Castle, Dome Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church, Swedish Gates, Three Brothers, Large and Small Guild House and the Freedom Monument. The afternoon is free or you can opt for a bicycle tour (OPTIONAL) in Kemeri national park and explore Latvia’s beautiful marsland and coastal villages on Riga bay. Kemeri national park is a natural wonder popular with thousands of migratory birds, as well as tourists, that have been coming here for more than 200 years to improve health in the resorts that provide therapeutic sulphur and mud baths. During this tour you will cycle through nature and calm local villages.

First you will explore the remains of what was once popular resort town then head to the floating bird watching tower and maybe spot some local bird species. You will head to the seacoast and discover a fishermen village and get chance to taste locally smoked fish and have a walk on the sandy beach.

 

Before returning to Riga, you will walk on a plank-way through the marshlands to get to know more about the unique flora and fauna.

7th DAY. Discover wonderful sceneries in Gauja national park

Another full day of exciting sceneries and fresh air.

After a short ride from Riga you will get off on the outskirts of Sigulda town where you will start a three-hour hike in the hilly forests, discovering unique sandstone caves and hidden passages through the forest. You will see the river Gauja valley from the top and enjoy the view of Sigulda castle from afar.

After the hike we will have a picnic lunch and continue to a unique Gutman’s cave – the largest in the Baltics sandstone cave which is also a geological protected monument. We will hear the medieval Latvian legend of the Rose of Turaida and see the ruins of the Turaida castle a former Livonian order settlement that is the most pictured monument of the area. After exploring fascinating nature of Latvian countryside we will head back to Riga for a free evening to enjoy its cosy old town.

8th DAY. On the road from Riga to Tallinn

After breakfast we will go to Tallinn with a stop in Estonian summer resort of Parnu. We do a short tour (1 hour) of the resort before we continue through the North Estonian land of forests and arrive in Tallinn in the afternoon.

In the evening we will have a 2 hour walking tour of Tallinn old town. Tallinn is a charming blend of medieval tranquility and modern urban life. The medieval Old Town is a busy place in the summer with its many shops, galleries, souvenir markets, outdoor cafés and restaurants. The walking tour (2-2.5 hours) takes us around the old medieval city walls and into the Old Town where we see Toompea Castle, Dome Church, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, medieval Old Town Hall and Great Guild Hall.

9th DAY. Estonian nature and seaside

After breakfast we are going to Lahemaa National Park the largest and very first protected nature reserve in the country.

This day is to explore stunning Estonian nature with it’s forests, lakes and wetlands. We will visit Jagala juga – the biggest natural waterfall in Estonia. Following the road we will visit Sagadi manor house – a good example showing how Estonian nobles used to live in the 18th century. The manor estate itself dates back to the 15th century and is one of the best preserved manors throughout the country. Later we will drive the narrow roads through the forested area where we will have chance to stroll around the fishermen villages along the Gulf of Finland. We will head for Oandu Old Grown forest and have a hike on a 5 km trail discovering it’s anciend virgin forest, natural animal species and perhaps some activity traces of wild animals.  

On the way back to Tallinn we will visit a picturesque Viru bog where we will take a walk through the path directing through the middle of the bog (6km long).

10th Day. Departure
